Soon after graduation Richard ended up living with a community on the northern shores of Lake Sibayi and built two holiday accommodation camps. The first was a refurbishment of a very run down camp. There was no power and was built entirely with hand tools. The second was bigger, more complex and fortunately assisted by a generator and good friend and fellow architect, Patrick Largatzis.

The time spent there was rewarding and is fundamental to the practice of design that Koop now follows.
